the bronx - what about us?

the movement continues

The Bronx – What About Us? Movement was initiated in 2017 with 20 students from Pelham Prep Academy High School. They published a video entitled, “Dear Mr. President” which was featured on the news and in a local newspaper. The video message featured students sharing their stories of growing up in the Bronx and their thoughts on the recent budget cuts in education. The project concluded with a video release party and a tour of Washington D.C.

The movement continues in 2021. This year, we're expanding the movement and will be highlighting the stories of Bronx students, educators, and influencers. Their stories will be turned into episodes as part of series to be featured on YouTube. The #MyBronxStory Series will be produced in 3 seasons, 12 episodes each. Season 1 will feature current students from 6th - 12th grade and alumni from Bronx schools. Season 2 will feature the stories of teachers, counselors, and school admin. Season 3 will feature influencers and change agents currently working to make the Bronx a better place.

This year's project will be exclusively sponsored our 1JB Inspires team. All participants will receive a “The Bronx – What About Us? #MyBronxStory” black hoody. A GoFundMe page will be the goto fundraiser page to raise $12,000 for the Inspire The Bronx Tour. Funds will secure 100 schools to receive an Empowerment Seminar that will feature some of the stories shared in the #MyBronxStory series.

Are you a middle school or high school student with a story of struggle, resilience, achievement, hope, and triumph? Submit your story and if selected, we’ll email you more info plus our contract/consent form to be featured in our YouTube series!

Our Amazing Students

The Bronx - What About Us? Project highlights the stories of 4 high school students representing grades 9 - 12, born and raised in the Bronx. Students shared their pieces that paint a personal picture of their lives growing up in the Bronx and some of their obstacles, their achievements, and their concerns about the state of education in the nation, state, city, and the Bronx. The goal is to send a direct message to our president and politicians that our students in the Bronx have a voice, want to be heard, and are worth investing in.
